The Collections

The Museum of Ancient Art contains about 4000 antiquities, one of the most important coin collections in Scandinavia and more than 500 casts. Objects from Greece and Italy constitute the main part of the objects, but the museum also has objects from the Near East and Egypt.

 
The top floor of the museum exhibits casts and original objects from Ancient Greece of the Archaic and Classical period, c. 600-323 BC. The exhibition gives an overview of the stylistic development of sculpture, pottery and architecture in this important period of Greek Culture.

 

The bottom floor of the museum exhibits objects from the Hellenistic period and the Roman Empireand illustrates city life in the world of the kings and emperors. It also contains an Etruscan and an Egyptian exhibition.
